In my last post, I said I was DONE procrastinating and that I was going to make a serious effort to blog more... and that was two years ago. So much for that! There is honestly no excuse for not posting except for the fact that I never really thought about it much and didn't make any effort whatsoever. This time, mark my words, I want to change that! Especially since I will be an official "adult" two weeks from today, I want to document my life, my experiences, and my views and opinions. Nothing too serious, though, because I enjoy being lighthearted. ;)

I think the hardest part will be coming up with something to say. If you couldn't tell, this post has been composed of nothing but rambling nonsense so far! So as I sit here watching the Texas Rangers (what's new), I'll try my hand at simply writing some thoughts of mine and whatever comes to mind.

My eighteenth birthday is in two weeks, as I said earlier, but the funny thing is that I don't feel like I'm about to become an adult. I say all the time, "I feel like in my mind I'm still fourteen! I see people who are seventeen, eighteen, even sixteen sometimes, and think to myself, 'Wow! They are so old!'" It is then that I realize yes, I am actually eighteen. Almost every older person you talk to will tell you that their life has flown by, saying, "Where has the time gone?!" They all say life goes by even faster the older you get, but I think the same is true of young people too. Sure, when you are in school you feel like the days could not possibly be going by any slower. But when you put everything in perspective, you realize how fast the days have actually gone by. Here I am, senior year of high school, and I remember the first day of kindergarten like it was yesterday. I remember walking in with my parents, discovering that a friend who used to be our neighbors was also in my class, and then after the school day, I came home pleasantly surprised to find that my mama had baked me some M&M cookies. Here we are, thirteen years later, and I have so much more on my plate than just freshly baked cookies. Between SAT's, college applications, and more responsibilities, it is becoming ever clearer to me that I am not as young as I feel or might think I am sometimes. In fact, it did not hit me until the other day that this is the last year I will permanently live in this home with my family, the last birthday I'll spend at home (next year I'll be in college!), and the last year my small class will be altogether. While all these memories through the years have been so greatly cherished, a part of me is ready to move on, grow up, and figure things out on my own. I have looked forward to and imagined when I leave and go to college so much, it is hard to believe that that time is so quickly approaching and will be here before I know it. I was watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off the other day, and I believe Ferris himself put it quite well. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around a while, you could miss it."

Cherishing memories and hoping I take time to stop and look around, Victoria

Why? Because I am a slacker. It's that simple. Wait. Scratch that. I WAS a slacker... until now ;) I am going to pick back up on this blog and start blogging again like I used to. To tell the truth, it was mom who told me I should start back up with this because:
1) It is cute
2) It will improve my writing
3) Improving my writing will give me a better score on the SAT
So here I go! Time to start dusting the cobwebs off the ol' slug bus bus! (Hehe, get my pun? Cobwebs, like since Halloween is coming up! Bahaha, I'm so "punny" :D) Anyways, what I am trying to say is that there will be many more blog posts to come!

Until then,
Hopeful National Merit Scholar and Ex-Slacker, VictoriaVictoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03997794354794196654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5334412175665085569.post-29431908471063110832010-11-23T19:49:00.000-08:002010-11-23T20:23:01.504-08:00Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 1Released: November 19, 2010
Writer: Steve Kloves
Director: David Yates
Rating: PG-13
Synopsis: As Harry races against time and evil to destroy the Horcruxes, he uncovers the existence of the three most powerful objects in the wizarding world: the Deathly Hallows.

This past weekend, I saw 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1' with my family. I had mixed reviews on it, actually. I regret not rewatching the 6th movie in the series before going to see this newest one, but we mostly went on a whim, so I didn't have time to rewatch it :( And I haven't seen 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' since the first time I saw it in the theater.. so it's been a while! I think if I had taken the time to watch the 6th movie, I would have understood a lot more.
I was pleasantly surprised on how funny some parts of the movie were! The majority of the film was definitely heavy stuff, but the light-hearted jokes spread throughout definitely lightened the mood ;)
Overall, I wasn't extremely pleased with the movie. I would probably go as far as to say it was a few levels above mediocre. Despite how everyone else I've talked to absolutely loved it, I wasn't as overjoyed as they were. Would I watch it again? Yes, I probably would just to see if I could catch and understand things I didn't get the first time. That always happens when you watch a movie: even if you've seen it a million times and can quote every line by heart, I guarantee you will catch at least ONE thing you've never seen before!
I think the biggest factor as to why I didn't really understand it was because I haven't read the books. I read the first one, and got to Chapter 11 of the second one before it was due back to the library. That's when I turned it in, unfinished, and never got it again. I have trouble reading books after I've seen the movie, because then I have the movie characters and the movie plot in my head the whole time and I know what is going to happen, which makes it not very fun! I know that if I had read the books, I would definitely understand more and get a lot more information than just the movie alone gives you, but I've never been committed to get through the whole series.
I used to stay really up-to-date on the whole series, but as the kids got older, the storyline got darker, and it became more and more "wizardy" with a whole cast of different characters each time, I found that over time I became lost and was then just watching the movies for the sake of watching them, not because I necessarily understood them. Does that make sense? I hope so! I think I really started getting lost and falling behind on around the 5th movie, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.' Who knows? Maybe one of these days I'll pick up the books again and give 'em a shot (But I make no promises ;D)!
I'm not trying to sound too harsh, so my final review would be that it wasn't my favorite of the whole Harry Potter series, I didn't understand everything in it (for example, I don't even know what a Horcruxe is- and that was what the whole plot of the movie was about..), but if given the opportunity, I would watch it again.
P.S. An added bonus was that I had my favorite candy during the movie-- GOBSTOPPERS!!! nom nom nom :)

Wizards and Gobstoppers, Victoria ;)

Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03997794354794196654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5334412175665085569.post-35143019954619893472010-11-23T16:00:00.000-08:002010-11-23T17:18:03.575-08:00Happy Thanksgiving! Even though it is a few days early, I wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving! My-Oh-My it is a GIANT ROLL OF TOILET PAPER! That's right, this roll of toilet paper rolls out to be about 35 miles long! It is real toilet paper, just super-sized! It is still 2-ply and everything!

You might be wondering how I acquired this monstrous roll of T.P. Well you see, we know someone who used to work at a factory where they make gigantic roles of toilet paper and then they send it off to toilet paper/facial tissue companies that cut it down to the right size. So this is what your handy-dandy box of Kleenex tissues looks like before it gets cut into convenient little squares! And if you were going to cut this for toilet paper, a machine would add in the perforations so there would be the perforated line separating each square of T.P.

Something no one really EVER thinks about it where your toilet paper comes from- or, well, I have never thought of where toilet paper comes from.. it's just always kinda been there! Well now I know all that goes into making toilet paper ;) That should be VERY useful in life! Hahaha

In the first picture, the giant T.P. roll is sitting next to the toilet-- it is taller than the actual toilet!! In the second picture, the monster roll of paper is up against a wall next to a yard stick. As you can see, it is about 3/4 as tall as the yardstick! Lastly, the third picture shows the fresh-from-the-factory paper next to a REGULAR roll of toilet paper, just to put it all in perspective ;) The regular roll could fit inside the whole in the middle of the giant roll! That's crazy!

I feel like the mega-toilet paper roll should have a name! Maybe I should name it?? Hahaha, because it takes too long to say 'giant toilet paper roll' and it would be so much more fun to just call it by a name! Hmm... Its name 'All American Chocolate Cake' could not be more fitting! The outside is covered in crispy chocolate shavings that melt in your mouth. When you cut open this beauty, you are greeted with thick, moist, delectable chocolate cake that tastes cool and refrigerated even when it is room temperature! In between the layers of the moist cake there is rich dark chocolate icing. There even tastes like there is icing mixed into the actual cake itself! Tonight we broke it open and, even split between eight people, there is barely a dent in it! Literally, that little dent was only about 1/6 of the whole cake! It should last us for weeks! :) When it is just sitting on the counter when no one is cutting it open, we put this plastic lid that came with it over the top. But when someone walks over and decides to help himself to a slice, they take off the lid and everyone around them is hit with the strong, magical aroma that is ALL AMERICAN CHOCOLATE CAKE! And the best part is that the smell lingers, so if you are on a diet or are too full for cake, you can at least still smell it in the air for about a minute or so! Ah, nothing better :) And even if you feel awful afterwards, it is so worth it! Well I'm off to dream about Chocolaty-Chocolate Cake :D

Chocolate Cake + Chocolate Shavings = Heaven on a Platter, Victoria ;)

Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03997794354794196654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5334412175665085569.post-37626141913756636862010-10-25T17:52:00.000-07:002010-10-25T18:49:25.626-07:00You Haven't Lived Until You've Watched This Video.. I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it! I really like movies in the Horror/Mystery/Thriller genre, and this movie fit perfectly in that category. I was literally on the edge of my seat with my hands near my face for some parts. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially since I was already scared of going in elevators, I had nothing to lose! I would highly recommend going to the theater or renting it on DVD (soon to come) if you have not seen it yet. And since it was an M. Aah this is such a big deal! This is HUGE for many reasons:

1) The Rangers have NEVER been this far before!
2) This means that they are one of the two best baseball teams in the nation!
3) AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

Last night, Academy reopened the store the second the Rangers WON to sell the new WORLD SERIES RANGERS shirts! So we left the house at around 10:45 pm to get to Academy- and by the time we got there, there were probably about 200 people already in line! And by the time we finally got to the front of the line, they were sold out of EVERYTHING except for hats, and shirts in sizes Adult S and M, and Youth L and XL. And of course, they had these awesome new Rangers shirts with the Claw and the Deer on it ;) Congrats, Rangers! <3

T-Shirts, Rangers, and Going to Academy at Midnight, Victoria ;)Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03997794354794196654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5334412175665085569.post-86244724187231244012010-10-20T19:54:00.000-07:002010-10-27T20:07:27.599-07:00♫ Music To My Ears ♫

♫ These are some of my absolute favorite songs :D Whether I am happy or feeling sad, these songs always make me feel good and wanna get up and dance! Seriously, the Rangers are beating the Yankees 6-0 in the 9th inning. This is unbelievable! And the funny part is when you look in the audience and see the masses of Yankee fans saying "What's the point!?" and heading out early.

Oh, scratch that last statement- the score has changed! Rangers are winning 7-0! I am totally supporting the home team with my pink 'Ian Kinsler' shirt and my red Texas Rangers foam finger :D

This is the first time I've seriously watched a baseball game and that is because the Rangers have made it all the way to the ALCS (American League Conference Series) for the first time EVERRR! Oh, we are loving this :P The stadium is MOSTLY EMPTY now because all the Yankee fans have left the stadium and there are only sprinkles of people still left.

Before I close this post, the score as it stand now is 8-0!!! A joke we've had the whole game is how the coach of the Rangers does one thing while watching the game- and that is..... (pause for dramatic effect).... chew sunflower seeds! He chews and chews and chews and spits and chews and spits some more! And there is some certain way about how he chews that makes it so funny :) It's like he chomps and moves his mouth around like a cow when he chews- it goes around and around in a circle. He takes "munching" to a whole 'nother extreme!

Final Score: Rangers-8 Yankees-0. And there is one section of the stadium for Texas fans (who are probably friends and family of the players- because what crazy dedicated fan would fly all the way to New York just to see them play baseball when 1) they could watch it on TV and 2) the Rangers just played two consecutive games at Rangers Stadium that they could've gone to) all decked out in their blue and red Rangers gear and they couldn't be more ecstatic and happy ;)

This.
